The hand on her shoulder yanked her from the memories. Aislynn glanced over at Dusk's hand and, with a smile, placed her own over it, "I don't know. Some people are getting really unoriginal. You might find another feline-morphing chick somewhere around here." There was a joking tone in her voice, but she wasn't completely joking - nor was she completely serious.
Her tail wrapped around her waist, and Aislynn glanced down at it slightly. She wasn't quite sure when it had appeared, but she was rather thankful for it. Her free hand began to stroke the soft silver fur.

He smiled. "You're not gettin' what I'm saying," he explained. "It doesn't matter the name you were given. Or the name you chose, even your powers. What I'm talking about, is what's inside. All of those things are important, yeah. But all of it put together is what makes a person themselves. Which is why I'd never find another you." He blinked, wondering where that sudden burst of insight came from.

Aislynn was wondering the same thing, though she wasn't one to outwardly voice her surprise or curiosity - or the fact she was slightly flattered. She wouldn't even look up for a moment after that because her face had turned slightly pink. Her fingers continued to stroke the silver-furred limb.
"I, um..." She licked her lips, "Thanks. I don't know if anyone else would want to find another me, and maybe two of me is too many, but..." Again, Aislynn trailed off. She wasn't so sure what to say anymore. A part of her was freaked out by that fact, but the other was dancing in victory. Maybe now she could return to being skittish and impersonal with people.

"Well, I told you. I'm not exactly everybody else." He stood to his feet and held out his hand. "And it don't matter what anyone else says or thinks. You're special. Don't you forget it. Now, how about we go home? You know, while it's still peaceful and no one's jumping out of trees and shit to shoot me." He winked.

"No," she murmured, "You're really not like everyone else."
Shifter smiled gently as he offered out his hand. She placed her smaller one in his, then stood, mumbling 'thanks.' Of course, as soon as she was standing, she shoved her hands back into her pockets, in an attempt to quickly hide her branding. The Synthetic beamed up at Dusk.
"Lead the way," she said, moving to standing beside him. "Because I rather not get my butt shot in the park. That wouldn't be fun."

"Well, it wouldn't be your butt they're aiming at," he said with a wink as he led the way to his place.
There really wasn't much to it. One story, two bedroom, one bathroom brick house with a big yard and a big front and back porch, the front complete with a swing. "Well, here it is. Not much, but my home is yours."

Aislynn looked thrilled. She practically skipped up the front walkway, only to flop into the porch swing. There was a content look on her face as she idly swung her legs, rocking gently. Aislynn had seen things like this before, but had never actually been able to sit on one. Her first sixteen years were spent in a lab, after all.
She glanced over at Dusk, beaming widely, "Wanna sit?" She asked as she scooted over, so she wasn't sitting in the direct middle of the bench. It was amazing how child-like one woman could be, especially since she had seen and done so much.

He chuckled at her reaction and sat down next to her. He smiled and looked over at her. "I don't think I sat on this thing since I got here. It's nice," he commented.
He closed his eyes; he couldn't remember the last time he felt so...human. Aislynn definitely was special. He still couldn't put his finger on why he felt this way, but it didn't change anything.

She continued to swing her legs, rocking the pair of them back and forth until they had a steady pace going. Then she gathered her legs under her, rested her arm on the armrest. A soft smile formed "Never sat on one of these before. They're fun." She glanced over at him.
His eyes were closed, and Aislynn noted how he looked...almost peaceful. Gentle. It was hard for her to believe that such a man could have worked for the Antidote, or swallow people into the shadows. That was why she didn't think about it, probably. Because she just couldn't see it.
Or maybe she didn't want to. Who knew?

"Yeah...Relaxing too," he said softly. He felt so...relaxed. A feeling he hadn't felt in a long time. His mind was at peace, and he was...happy.
After what must have been ages, he opened his eyes, looking at the now-dark city. He stood up and stretched. "I'm gonna go nap inside. You make yourself at home. Let me know if you need anything." With that, he gave sort of a half-hug and went inside to bed, his eyes slowly closing.

"I will." She murmured as he stood.
For the first time since... Well, for the first time in far too long, Aislynn was given a hug. It made her child-like heart swell, and she found herself squeezing him back. She watched as he went inside, smiled, then let her body morph into the silver kitten she was famous for. Without another moment to waste, the blonde leapt off the swing and settled onto the porch, enjoying the warmth left by the day's worth of sun.
She was content, Aislynn realized as her eyes began to droop. She felt safe in the company of one other. She knew he wasn't going to turn on her or throw her to the wolves it began to storm. Aislynn wasn't quite sure what all that meant, but she was rather enjoying it.

Dusk awoke when he heard thunder, and the rain beating down on the roof. He quickly stood up and walked outside, in the rain.
"Hey, Aislynn," he called, looking around. "You wanna go inside?"

Aislynn was cowering under the porch steps, her entire body shaking from fear and from cold. She hated storms, had since she was little. The dark bothered her, too, though her eyes normally adjusted enough to make up for it. But now they were closed tightly, her face buried in her paws.
"Hey, Aislynn, you wanna go inside?"
At the sound of Dusk's voice, the young woman let out a frightened mew. She crawled out from under the stairs, leaping onto the porch, and soon found herself pressed against his leg. Her entire form, as tiny as it was, was sopping wet. Big, blue eyes stared up at him from behind a mop of headfur.
"Please?" She mewled.

Without thinking, he picked her up in his arms and sat on the swing, rocking back and forth. He focused, and his shadow-aura formed an umbrella of sorts, keeping them both dry.

Aislynn morphed into human form as soon as they were on the swing, not altogether caring that she was practically glued to his side. Her entire body was still shaking, though it had subsided slightly since Dusk had made his prescence known. She felt safer now, though the thunder and lightening still had her flinching.
She looked up at him, teeth chattering, "Thanks," she mewed again, curling up slightly. The rain was no longer pelting on her form, so she wiped her hair out of face and gave him a light smile. Then she glanced at the shadow umbrella, "Hey, look - practice."
