Brief History:
Joy was born to some guy and a hooker. She never bothered to find out what her parents' names were. After all, they never seemed interested in her.
When she was about four, she was adopted by a man and wife. They seemed like a happy couple, but Jack was a mean drunk. Lindsey did all she could to protect Joy from him, but they would end up at the hospital a number of times with "accidents". However, he never touched Bruce because he was a boy and about fifteen at the time. To deal with this, Joy developed her first personality--Joker. He was able to deal with the pain and make cracks about it.
Bruce grew up, joined the police academy, and ended up moving out of the house. He did all he could to adopt Joy. Then one day Jack came home and forced himself on his wife. She grabbed a gun and blew his brains out, then shot herself.
Bruce heard about it and came, wrapping the twelve-year-old in a blanket. She lived with him for a few years. But when she was seventeen, he was murdered in the line of duty. She couldn't deal with it. The cops couldn't do anything to save her. Batman ended up coming out of this. She ran around and found those who killed her brother. Joker slipped into her mind and killed them all, setting fire to the building. The police came as she had struck a match and lit it, sitting atop a large stack of crates. She escaped through the roof. She was arrested but had no recollection of what had happened.
In the end Batman ended up coming out and telling them what Joker had done. She was tried and convicted, sentenced to a lifetime in an asylum. She worked with a strange psychiatrist for a while who seemed to love Harlequin romances. Joker really liked her. She was fun to toy with. Harley ended up being created because of this.
In the asylum, a group of scientists decided to take a group to try and make super soldiers for the battlefield. After all, who cared if they did something to the insane.
Joy found out about this and flipped out. She tried to get the genes out, scratching and tearing up her veins with her fingers. She was declared dead and was so for an hour. When she woke up in the morgue, she escaped--after all, who would be watching a morgue? She ended up getting caught and tranquilized. She woke up in a strange, plain house and discovered herself to be in a place called...Anadac.
Joy was being forcibly walked down the hall in another straight jacket, fighting all the way. "You'll never prove it was me!" she cackled, pretending that she was, in fact, as loony as her lawyer thought she was.
She was stuck in an orange jump-suit, but since she had screamed bloody murder when they tried to take the hat and make-up off, they decided it was probably for the best to let it be. For now.
Still, they needed to put her in a cell. "Arkham's full tonight," one of them remarked.
"Let's put her in with the new guy. Maybe she'll make nice."
The other guy opened the door, as the first lead her in. "This is your new roommate. Play nice."
Joy nodded her head, grinning at the guy in front of her. She then turned and made a move to bite him, giggling insanely when he backed up and sort of tore out of there, the other guy remaining long enough to lock the door.
