Brief Description:
Leatherhead is a carefree sort of soul.
Or rather, he tries to be that way. Before the labs, he was an easy-going, laid back alligator who traveled through the swamps without a care in the world. But since being turned into a "man-gator-thing," he's become a bit more brash, rough. He snarls and snaps at things he doesn't understand, but actually hates to lose his temper. He doesn't like being unable to control himself; it makes him feel rather helpless.
He is a southern boy at heart, do not forget. When he's not being rough and guarded, Leatherhead is a true southern man; he has manners, and he will show them. He will not strike a woman; nor would harm any sort of lower animal (such as pet-quality animals).
Despite this, Leatherhead is violent. He only likes being violent when he knows he can control it, such as when he sees someone he knows he has to beat on or such. It's rather difficult.
And he's difficult to figure out.

Weaknesses:
Leatherhead has a terrible temper, which, combined with his strength, is not exactly the best thing. Also, his morphing is completely uncontrollable; he cannot choose when he enters one form, or changes from one to another. It is completely up to his body and (sometimes) his emotions.

...He is a giant mutant alligator.

Brief History:
Unlike most Abnormals, Leatherhead wasn't born a human.
He was hatched from an egg in the Everglades a completely normal alligator. He grew up among the swamps and Cajuns, snapping at them and running into their boats for the helluvit. It was quite the time to be a 'gator in Louisianna.
Eventually, the locals got tired of being harassed by this beast, and a few concerned civilians sent off for a scientist to come take care of "Ole Leatherhead." They didn't want to kill him; he had become a part of their home, in a way. But they didn't want him to kill their children or friends, and so they had to find a way to get him away. If only for a little while.
The scientists came and set up their traps. At first, Leatherhead proved to be too smart for them. However, they finally caught the gator, and transported him away to a lab. But instead of tagging him and setting him free, the scientist decided to use him for some sort of experiments, and began his work. It was during this time of testing and experimentation that Leatherhead gained his "anthro-ness," and the ability to morph.
It was also because of the pain caused that he gained a nasty temper, and is quick to lash out.
Leatherhead aged like a normal gator; at least until his transformation was complete. The three year old gator started aging like a normal human when, in human form, he looked like someone in his early twenties; that was when his transformations all stopped. And that was when Leatherhead escaped from the lab.
He wandered through the world for a year or two, just sort of lost and confused. He realized that the world tended to hate him on site, and grew to that. He started to snarl and snap at those he didn't understand, and those who looked at him odd. He just wanted to survive, after all. And some people made that really difficult.
He met others like him, though they weren't really like him. They were humans with abilities; "Abnormals" they called themselves. Leatherhead found kin in them, though he never stayed around a group for too long. He always found himself lashing out at them for something or another. But while he was among them, he heard about the Antidotes, and their attempt to grab the Abnormals.
And he heard about the few that wanted to help.
One of the few was named Alexandra Wolfblood, an Antidote who had been working her way up the ranks. She had also been smuggling Abnormals out of America and Canada to Britain, where they would be safe from the law. Unforunately, a General in the Antidote "army" heard about this, and decided to fix it. He set up an "accident" for the girl.
Leatherhead knew the accident area well, and, when a friend cashed in a favor, was forced to go to try to stop the woman from falling into the trap. Unfortunately, before he could get there, a portion of the building exploded. Instead of a rescue mission, he started a recovery operation.
Surprisingly, he found the girl alive. She was no longer human; instead, she was very much like a gargoyle. He dug her out from under the rubble.
He still isn't sure how, but she managed to convince him to let them travel together. She knew the country, and he was strong. They could help others escape America, or escape it themselves. Once they were out, they could go their seperate ways. He agreed.
Unfortunately, they ended up becoming close friends. Leatherhead found himself drawn to the stories the woman told; stories of growing up human, of being alone despite having two siblings. And she, in return, found him interesting. A bond was formed between the two - especially when he realized she kept him calm.
They were out, traveling the desert, when a group of Antidotes ambushed them. They attempted to fight the humans off, but their guns were too much. Both passed out - only to wake up in Adanac.
