Scarab sat at the desk in the hotel, which had to have looked odd. It was midnight, but this was important. He was rummaging through files, trying to find some evidence of the surviving mafia. He'd started five hours ago, but was still stuck at the same place he had been five hours ago.
He sighed, at least this computer was up to date. So it didn't crash every three seconds. "Nada...nada...nada....mierda..." he muttered.

Well I just heard the news today. It seems my life is going to change; I closed my eyes, begin to pray. Then tears of joy stream down my face.
With arms wide open, under the sunlight; Welcome to this place, I'll show you everything.
Aeval had a bit of news to share with Scarab. No, it didn't concern the mafia, or the family they had lost when the damned Antidotes decided to bring them to this place. It wasn't about weapons, or a plan to finally take down those damned humans. In fact, the news she had to tell her mate didn't have anything to do with Scarab's current mission - a fact that was odd to the cat, but was still very important. In fact, Aeval couldn't remember ever having news this important in her entire life. Sure, there were a couple of close-calls, such as when the law had been passed, or when she had heard that Antidotes planned on raiding their homes. But even those paled in compairison to this. This was something that both excited and scared her. It was something she had held off on telling Scarab for as long as possible, for fear of him being mad at her - or even leaving her. She knew how male cats were when it came to families; they didn't have them. They "slept" with the female, and then left. She didn't know if she could bare it if Scarab left her. They had built a life together. She loved him with all of her heart. He was her love, her life, and her mate. She needed him to be there, especially now that she was pregnant. The pregnancy was only just starting to show, to tell the truth. Her stomach was only showing a slight bump, but she was already a month and a half into it. That, however, was explainable. Cats only had a sixty-five day gestation period, but since she was part human, Aeval was willing to wager hers would be around four months or so; about half of a human's. "Scarab?" Aeval called, poking her head into the room where Igs was currently working on the computer. One of her ears twitched, "Igs, can I talk to you?"

Scarab smiled, turning off the computer, but not without glaring at the computer and spitting out a long string of cuss words--English and Spanish alike. He smiled at Aeval though.
"You can always talk to me, Amora. Especially if it will get my mind off of this...five hours. Cinco horas. And what do I find? Nada..." He motioned for her to come over to where he was.
"Talk to me, Amora. What's on your mind? Que pasa?" He looked at his mate. Somehow, she always managed to cheer him up. Without even trying.

When he beckoned her over, Aeval couldn't stop the smile from forming on her face. Gathering up her skirt, the cat-girl started towards him, careful of the steps she took. It wasn't that the place was messy, because it certainly wasn't, it was just that she had to think while walking. And that made her cat-mind hesitate.
"I'm sorry to interupt," she said, once she had reached him. Her ear flicked backwards, pressing against a curl of blue hair, "I just... I need to talk to you. It's kinda important."
Important didn't even begin to describe a pregnancy, but there was no word - at least not in the English or Spanish dictionary - that could describe it. That was like asking her to describe how much she loved Scarab; it simply wasn't possible.

The way she walked seemed a little....different, but he didn't really notice. He wasn't exactly the kind of guy who scrutinized everything. He smiled, putting a hand on her cheek when she was close enough, and planting a small kiss on her forehead.
"Amora, it doesn't matter what I'm doing. You take top priority. I haven't found anything, but I know our boys. And the few girls we had. The system's not good enough to find them. Anyway, I'm finished with what I'm doing, Amora. Even if I wasn't, I'd stop for you." He smiled softly again, gently pulling her closer. "Now, Que es, Amora?"

Aeval smiled when he pecked her cheek, reaching over to take his hand with hers. She closed her eyes, touching her forehead to hiss, and purred softly; her tail moved to wrap around his wrist. She wanted to show him she loved him, without saying a word, especially right now. That was just the type of person she was.
"I, um... I've got... I mean, it's rather important. I..." She hesitated, knowing that she sounded stupid. She was supposed to be his SIC, and yet she couldn't even get a proper sentence out. It was ridiculous. "It's something that concerns--"
Aeval broke off again, holding up a hand to tell him she didn't want him trying to say a word while she tried to word this. It was a mess, truly. She was a mess. But she was also a cat, and cats didn't always need to talk. Sometimes, it was best to just tell, instead of explain.
Reaching over, she took his hand. Gently, carefully, Aeval opened his palm, and placed it on her belly - a very tender abs vulnerable spot for a cat.

Her stammering kind of worried him--a lot. She didn't usually stammer like this. This told him that whatever this was was pretty big. But her purring told him that it wasn't bad.
Then she put one of his hands on her stomach, and it hit him. "Embarazada..." he murmured quietly. "You're pregnant." A smile spread across his face and he gently touched his lips to hers. One familia is mostly lost...and now we're going to have a familia of another kind." The look in his eyes very accurately reflected his approval. Even as a tear rolled down his cheek.

When he smiled, Aeval gave a soft purr. She placed her hands over his, purring softly. "Yeah," she confirmed, whimpering lightly. It wasn't a bad sort of whimper; rather it was happy. Delighted. She and Scarab were going to have a real family - not that they hadn't before, but this would be theirs.
And she wouldn't abandon them as her mother had her.
"I'm sorry it took a while for me to tell you," she said, turning so he could see that she did, in fact, have a light bump. Her blue eyes sparkled, "I had to figure out how, and... how far along I needed to be. It's a feline thing."

"It is no problem," he said. "This is big news. And I...no word in any language can describe how happy I am." He let his forehead rest against hers, something she normally did to him.
"I love you," he whispered, in her own language.

Aeval's smile only widened, and the cat-girl continued to purr. She moved closer to him, in an attempt to sit on his lap. Her eyes shimmered; there was love in her heart for this man, love that could never be expressed properly in words. "Cats, we... We have litters. Odds are we'll have at least three. That's on the lower end of average for us."
That also explained why she was showing so early. Considering the number of children she has growing inside of her, it was no wonder she had a belly nearly a month and a half into it. "And once we find the others, then our family will be bigger, stronger..." Her eyes sparkled.
