I don't know if there's a reason Why some are blessed, some not Why the few You seem to favor They fear us, flee us, try not to see us Aislynn was out and about, walking the city streets in her human form. She wasn't quite sure why she wasn't in one of her feline bodies, but for some reason she just couldn't find the strength or energy to give up the two-legged, furless, hated form for one she felt she truly belonged in. Maybe she was just having a mood swing, or maybe it was coming up on her "birthday." She always stayed in human form on that day, and preferred it around the time.
Either which way, she wasn't a feline, and she wasn't caring too much where she was at the moment. Her hands were shoved in her pockets, her hair wrapped up in a ponytail, and her eyes were glued to the concrete beneath her feet. Aislynn had never been one to look any person in the eye, not after her challenge for dominance that one time had left her with... Well, she'd rather not think about her time at the lab. Not anymore.
Suddenly, Aislynn stopped. She turned so she faced the street, and pressed her back against the cold wall behind her. Her mind was everywhere today, she realized. Her thoughts were bouncing from one topic to another, with no connection of any kind between them. Perhaps being cooped up in this city was doing more to her than she cared to admit. Maybe she really was going crazy.
With a sigh, she ran a hand over her face and tilted her head back, so it, too, rested against the brick. Maybe she wouldn't be going crazy if she actually had something to keep her mind off of her current situation. Maybe if she went out, found some Lessers who were sort of like her, she could learn to deal with this.
Or maybe she could just get into crime. That would work. Give up trying to be this hero/neutral chick and just find something interesting to do. Crime was interesting, wasn't it? And she certainly had the talent to stay one jump ahead of the lawman...

Dusk walked down the street, his cold, almost soulless eyes staring dead ahead. His mind never once went back to the Antidote troops he'd killed just moments ago. His former comrades, now his sworn enemies. But that's what happens when one shuns Dusk.
His mind wandered, the aura around him kind of...average. It wasn't really strong, but not exactly weak, either. He turned, onto the sidewalk and walked through a building just because he felt like it. He just walked straight through, not paying anything or anyone any mind, then walked out through the wall on the other side. He didn't really seem to notice that he was almost shoulder to shoulder with some chick.

Aislynn didn't even realize she had company until she looked up - and saw a guy walking straight through the wall. Part of her wanted to jump back and hiss. The other part of her, the one that was in control at the moment, tensed her entire body. She felt her pulse quicken, even as her eyes ran over his form.
If she had been given rabbit DNA, Aislynn would have been long gone the moment her eyes searched his face. But it was feline blood that ran through her veins, and the feline curiosity that caused her to tilt her head to the side - even as fear coursed through her.
"Is something wrong, sir?" She murmured, then winced as the sound of her own voice registered in her ears. She wasn't supposed to be...interacting with these people. Some of them were just as bad as the humans, after all.

He looked to the side and stepped back. He looked the girl over, his face showing no real expression. He stayed silent a moment, an eerie sort of air to him.
"No. Nothing that wasn't already wrong," he answered, his voice dark. "Nothing that anything can be done about." At this, his mind wandered to his past, and this upset him. The aura around him grew darker and more intense as the shadows danced softly.

Aislynn felt her blood run cold as he looked her over. Every animalistic instinct she had was screaming at her. He was dark; he was troubled. She should be running now, morphing into the fastest cat she could think of and just dart away. But she couldn't do that, for some ungodly reason even she couldn't name.
The moving of the shadows did not get past Aislynn, who sidestepped a writhing shadow near her feet. "The past can't be undone, I suppose." She murmured, as if she already knew what he was thinking about. Perhaps she did. After all, she knew how the past could mess with you, shape you. It was something you had to deal with, whether you liked it or not.

"No, it can't." He answered after a long silence, finally calming down. "The hardship. The pain. The betrayal will always be there. No matter what's been done, it's set in stone."
He looked around. "Just like the results are set in stone. The hatred. The rage. The thirst for vengeance, and longing to crush all that did this..." His voice suddenly dropped to a hiss-like whisper. "Still there..."

Aislynn closed her eyes as she spoke, knowing too well what this man spoke of. Her time in the lab, and then her so-called friend's betrayal, had scarred the young woman far too deeply for any sort of recovery to be in sight.
She opened her eyes, turning her head to look at him. A very small, very thin, smile curved her lips. It was a sad smile, perhaps a sort of ironic one as well. Even Aislynn wasn't took sure. "And until you heal, there's no chance that any of it will go away. some of us won't ever heal." She rubbed her arms slightly, looking at the darkening street.

He nodded silently, the shadows finally coming to a complete stop. "Right." At that moment, he turned to see someone standing there, gun trained on them.
"Well, if it isn't my old friend, Shadow," the soldier said sarcastically. Dusk just glared.
"Oh, I'm sorry...Dusk."
"Wouldn't say we're friends," he hissed.
"Got that right. Since you turned Lesser on us. I know, it wasn't your fault. It was an accident. But rules are rul--"
The soldier didn't have time to finish as suddenly his own shadow shot up out of the ground and devoured him. His gun clanked to the ground. Dusk just stared grimly, shadows dancing more vigorously now.

"Well if it isn't my old friend, Shadow."
Aislynn tensed. She knew right of the bat, without even looking at the man, that he was not a Lesser. She could smell him from there; his scent was off, normal. Not only that, but the utter...contempt in his voice let her know right away. He was part of the Antidote - and that immediately caused her chest to seize up.
Her entire body followed, and her eyes widened, giving her a very deer-in-the-headlights look. When it came to the Antitode, Aislynn was terrified of them. She already feared humans, but when you threw in the fact that they held guns and utterly hated the Lessers, her fear grew to terror.
But then the man - Dusk, she assumed his name was - snarled something at the Antidote. It was just enough to keep her from hyperventilating, though her heart still pounded painfully in her chest. Apparently, Dusk had once been a human, which meant he was either a Synthetic or a Disastrous. Which meant he had once been an Antidote.
But now he was a Lesser, and... Now he had just used the shadows to devour the human. For a minute, Aislynn just stared at the spot where the man had been swallowed up. Then she seemed to relax again, as if realizing he wouldn't be coming back.
She opened her mouth to say something, but then shut it. She wasn't sure whether to thank him for making the solider go away - even though he was only doing it to make him shut up - or just tell him nice job.

He looked back as if just realizing the girl was still there. He had no regrets for what he'd done. His eyes were still emotionless, but there was a tiny hint of concern in them.
"So now you know...My name is Dusk...and I was one of...them," he said quietly. "I loved my job. Thought Abnormals were bad. Then there was the accident that turned me. I was betrayed and sent here by my former comrades. Alone. Just me and the shadow surrounding me. I've seen both sides. Nowhere did I find the line between right and wrong. So...I drew my own line."

As she listened to his tale, Aisynn's eyes softened. She had heard of some Antidotes being turned into Lessers, but had never actually met any of them. Nor had she actually believed that they were here. People had whispered that some had been so disgusted by their form that they killed themselves. But apparently that last part wasn't so true. At least not involving this Lesser.
"I'm...sorry your comrades betrayed you," she murmured quietly, looking up at him. Aislynn knew she really shouldn't be talking; she wasn't one to talk like this, but she felt as if something had to be said. "Most of us had no say in what we were to become. But apparently they didn't care." Her eyes dulled for a moment, and she wrapped her arms around herself.
"But on the bright side, that shadow thing is really cool." She gave him a slight smile, hoping he would understand that she was trying to lighten the mood. Too bad she really had no conversational skills.

"The humans--I at one time was included--judge an entire group based on the sins of a few. But if they stepped back and looked for a second...they'd realize that they're no better than what they think we are," he said. Normally, he didn't talk, but he'd had this bottled up since he got banished to Adanac. It had to come out. As he spoke, all became calm again.
He smiled, a rare occasion for him. "I like my powers. I...I like who I am. I don't care what anyone else thinks of me. They coined us Abnormals. Lessers. Homo Inferior. But I don't see what's so inferior about us. Maybe they only do this...because they're afraid." His voice got dark, and he muttered, "If given the chance, I'd show them something to be afraid of...."

"If given the chance, I'd show them something to be afraid of...."
Aislynn's ears picked up on that last part, even if it was spoken loud enough for the normal human to hear. In response, a soft mewling sound escaped her throat, though she quickly coughed in an attempt to hide it. She wasn't one to display emotion, even concern or fear, though administering it in small doses was okay. So, she allowed a tiger's tail to grow, and gently touched his arm with it, since a hand on his arm might be considered too much.
"They judged us because some take the powers they are given for granted. They call us inferior because they believe us to be stronger; they fear us." Apparently she shared the same views as he did, a fact she was just now figuring out, "Some of them want us dead, others just want us to remain seperated. History shows the humans have never been good at accepting those different then them."
Her tail curled around her own shoulders now, and she idly flicked the end with her fingers. Aislynn sighed softly, then glanced up at him, licked her lips. "The name's Aislynn, by the way. But they call me Shifter."

He sort of flinched at the tail on his arm, not used to the contact. Though...it felt nice...
He nodded. "Nice to meet you. I'd tell you my real name, but I haven't used it in so long..." He shrugged. "I forgot it."
He looked up at the darkening sky, the aura growing gradually more intense as the night took over. "Well, Shifter, it was actually nice talking to you." Damn...never said that one before...

Aislynn saw the way he flinched at her tail and was glad she had snatched it back. A part of her was hurt, though that was just because she though he didn't like the touch of a cat-human, a Freak. But then she shook it away when her tail begin to receed, back into her spine.
He spoke, and she smiled lightly, nodding once, "Yeah. I don't talk to many people, so..." She rubbed the back of her neck, looking rather unsure, "thanks, I guess." Yeah, she really wasn't good at this. "And don't worry about your real name, I like Dusk. Rather fitting, I think."
She gave him another smile, this one holding a bit more than just shy hesitance. "I, uh, guess you're gunna head now, huh? It's gettin' dark." Good thing her eyes were just a bit sharper than the average human eye.
