He nodded, flames engulfing his hand. Then...he saw the girl next to him. He had no problem burning guys. But...he couldn't hurt a girl. It was against his nature. Not that he'd tell his brother that. He shook his head. "No, Brother. He no burn, she suffer more," he said simply, walking away.
Dusk was barely breathing, and his aura was barely visible. He gripped the dog tag. "Lynn...I'll be okay. Don't wor--" then he lost consciousness.

The young woman tensed when Knife-Fingers gave the order for the big guy to burn them. She wrapped her arms around Dusk, pulling him to her chest, and snarled at them. Her fangs gleamed in the sunlight, showing Aislynn for the predator she tried to fight. If they even tried, she would take at least one of them with her.
For some reason, the big guy decided not to burn them. Instead, he mumbled something about her hurting more, then turned and walked away. She snarled at the pair, then looked down at Dusk. Gently, she stroked his face.
"I'll get you somewhere safe. Don't worry. You'll be okay..." She didn't really care that she was just repeating everything he said. She was just trying to comfort herself more than him.
Her body morphed Liger, the biggest cat she had ever morphed, and Aislynn took the back of his shirt into her mouth. Snarling at the pair, the silver feline lifted the man and placed him on her back. Now, to prey her strength wouldn't run out.

Kevin rolled his eyes, but nodded. He had to agree, watching her boyfriend die... well, that would scar her even more then she already was. And he wanted her to suffer, to remember him forever and never be able to let go of that memory. He didn't want her to be able to cover.
He walked over to her, beside her for a moment, and bent down, whispering into her ear. "Switchblade. Remember the name." With that, he turned in the opposite direction, snapping for Markus again. "Come, brother. You did good work today. How 'bout we go rob an icecream truck?"

Aislynn tensed as the man approached her again, parting her lips into a dangerous snarl. Her fur bristled, her ears flattened against her head. She was ready to leap and tear into him - and she would have, too, if Dusk hadn't been on his back. Her claws dug into the concrete, showing him that if he got any closer, she would snap.
"Switchblade. Remember the name."
The name was whispered in her ear, and it sent a shudder down her spine. Aislynn chose not to respond, instead choosing to bound towards a hospital. She could only hope she got there in time, and didn't hurt Dusk anymore than he already was.

He coughed, and his eyes slowly opened. He wasn't back at full health, but his aura was more visible than it had been, though not as strong. When he opened his eyes, he saw a white room. He was on a hospital bed, with tubes and various machines hooked to his arm.
"Oh God...I feel like I got hit by a truck...then said truck chewed me up and spit me out..." he groaned.

Through this whole time, Aislynn had been sitting beside him. Well, currently she was asleep on the couch in the hospital room, but you get the idea. She hadn't left the room except to grab a bite to eat here or there, and even then she was never gone for more than twenty minutes. She had no desire to leave him alone for any period of time now.
She heard him stirring and perked up, looking around the room lazily. She heard his voice, though, and suddenly Aislynn was wide awake. She leapt from the couch, moving to stand beside his bed, and automatically took his hand in hers.
"Hey," she murmured, brushing her thumb over the back of his hand.

He gripped her hand and smiled. "Hey." He looked up at her, then felt something in his other hand. His dog tag. He took it and held it out to her. "Here. This is yours," he said softly.
"Thanks. You know, for everything."

Aislynn took the dog tag and smiled gently, drawing it close to her chest. But then she remembered seeing something on it, and pulled back so she could read it. Her eyes glittered as she realized what it was.
"No," she murmured, pressing it into his hand, "it's yours. It, um... It has your name on it. Your real name."
Aislynn reached up, brushing her hand over his forehead. She reached over to touch her lips there, eyes softening."Don't ever do that to me again."

He looked, and read the name aloud. "Bastian Reynolds..." He smiled. "So it does." He smiled as her hand, then lips, brushed against his forehead. "I know, it was mine to begin with. But...I want you to have it." His normally soulless eyes were soft as he looked up at her. "I won't. I...I knew I could take him...but then that other guy...from out of nowhere...." He sighed, a look of defeat on his face.

Her eyes softened, and Aislynn pulled up a chair. She sat beside him, keeping her hands on one of his. "Shh, don't worry about it. It's okay. It's over and done with, Dusk. I'm just glad you're safe. You don't know how scared I've been... I thought that you were..."
She swallowed slightly, licked her lips. There was a disturbed look on her face, as if the thought of him dying truly upset her. Her eyes rested on his face, "I thought I'd lost you."

He smiled, shifting slightly and putting the dog tag around her neck with his free hand. "You didn't. And you're not going to," he said, sitting up just a little. He leaned in and planted a quick, gentle kiss on her lips, then lay back down. "I'm sorry I worried you. I was just trying to protect you. You were on my mind the entire time, Lynn," he admitted, looking up into her eyes.

She lowered her head, to let him place the dog tag around her neck. When she straightened, Aislynn took the tag in her hand and looked at it. For some reason, this little tag meant more to her than anything her father had ever given her. It was enough to make her heart swell.
But then her heart skipped a beat. Dusk had risen just enough to touch his lips to hers, and Aislynn found herself blushing ever so slightly. Her lips curled upwards, just enough to form a smile.
"I know," she murmured, running the back of her fingers down his cheek, "I know you were. And I'm sorry I caused you to go get the heck beat out of ya."

"You didn't cause it," he said softly. "I told you from the beginning I'd go beat the crap outta someone for you. It just didn't go as planned that time. Lynn...I'd do anything for you." He smiled back.

"Lynn...I'd do anything for you."
For some reason, that sentence struck a chord deep inside of her, and Aislynn felt her throat squeeze. She reached over, placing her hand on his cheek. She opened her mouth to speak, but nothing would come out. She just couldn't think of anything to say to that, anyway to respond.
Because no one had ever said anything like that to her.
She closed her eyes, nibbling on her lip. After a moment, she looked at him and said, "I would never ask you to hurt anyone, or to get yourself hurt for me. I care too much about you to see you thrown into danger like that, but... But thank you."

"I know you wouldn't. I just...I can't stand the thought of someone hurting you." He closed his eyes. "I'll at least think things through a little next time," he said. "Promise." He put his hand on top of hers.
